Set a separate scope for the panels
Treat solar panels as a separate part of the cleaning plan. A method chosen for the roof covering is not automatically suitable for the equipment above it. Before booking a roof wash, identify the panel manufacturer and model, find its care instructions, and agree whether panel cleaning is included or excluded.
This reference concerns standalone photovoltaic panels. It does not provide instructions for integrated solar roofing, including Tesla Solar Roof tiles.
Two manufacturers, specific limits
REC's cleaning guide prohibits pressure cleaners, steam cleaners and high-pressure hoses on REC panels. It calls for cleaning when panels are cool and using water at ambient temperature. The appropriate installation manual remains part of the decision.
Tesla's Solar Panels support page describes ordinary water-hose rinsing from ground level, directed only at the glass cover—not wiring or the underside. It recommends overcast conditions or low sun to avoid rinsing hot panels.
These examples are not one combined procedure for every installation. Calling a roof treatment soft washing does not establish that its cleaner or application method is approved for the installed panels.
Damage and electrical work need a different response
REC warns that damaged panels can present an electric-shock hazard, particularly when wet, and says not to stand or lean on panels. Suspected damage or an unresolved access concern is a reason to stop and obtain professional advice.
Tesla tells owners not to attempt system repairs, disconnect wires or open electrical panels. Contact the installer or manufacturer's service team about electrical concerns; a cleaning job should not become an improvised repair.
Questions to settle before work starts
Ask the proposed cleaner which panel instructions they will follow, which surfaces the quote covers, and how the roof-washing plan accounts for nearby panels and wiring. Ask what happens if the product cannot be identified or damage is found.
Record the agreed scope before work begins. That gives both parties a clear answer when an apparently simple roof wash meets a separate electrical installation.
