Water flow and detergent pickup are separate checks
A washer can deliver water while its detergent system fails to draw. For the low-pressure siphon systems described here, the detergent setting, pickup path and connected equipment all need attention. Water at the gun alone does not identify the fault.
Before touching tubes, fittings or nozzles, follow the machine's shutdown and pressure-release procedure. Generac's tank-system guidance specifically requires the washer and water supply off, with retained pressure released through the spray gun, before injector-port work. This article does not cover opening or probing the injector.
Check the detergent control and pickup path
Generac's external-bucket guidance requires the correct low-pressure detergent nozzle. Its separate tank-system guide also identifies the soap setting on equipped PowerDial guns. Use the nozzle or setting specified for your machine; color alone is not a universal specification.
For the external-bucket systems, Generac says to keep the pickup end submerged and check the tube and filter for obstruction or cracking. Its tank-system guide identifies loose or damaged pickup connections that admit air as another possible cause. Record what you find instead of assuming the whole washer needs replacement.
A hose change can matter
General Pump's instructions for its named stainless-steel, color-coded injector family list an incorrect nozzle, failure to enter low-pressure mode, excessive discharge-hose length and an obstructed chemical line among possible no-draw causes. The family is designed for car-wash applications; these are its troubleshooting examples, not universal hose-length limits.
If the symptom began after a hose or attachment change, give the supplier those details. Ask for a compatible configuration for the actual injector, flow and pressure rather than changing an orifice or adjusting an unloader by guesswork.
Confirm the liquid is approved, then escalate
Generac's tank-system guide identifies excessive detergent thickness as a possible problem and directs owners back to the detergent's preparation instructions. It also prohibits bleach and corrosive cleaners for the machines it covers. A detergent pickup tube does not establish chemical compatibility.
General Pump specifies clean, fresh water and directs users to its technical service department about other or corrosive liquids. Follow both the equipment instructions and product label; do not improvise a stronger or thinner mixture to force pickup. If the external checks reveal damage or do not resolve the symptom, use model-specific service support.
