The black streaks on First Coast roofs are algae, not dirt. Pressure washing them shortens the life of shingles and can void a roof warranty. Soft wash is the professional standard, and it is the only method we use on roofs.
We apply a roof-specific mix at low pressure, give it time to work, and rinse with control. Tile roofs in Ponte Vedra and Nocatee respond especially well — the color comes back without a pressure scar.
Most homeowners see the difference from the street before they see it from the ladder. A clean roof also cools the attic slightly and keeps gutters from filling with organic sludge.

This is the whole reason Safe Touch exists. A pressure tip on shingles strips granules, and granules are the roof. On tile it drives water under the laps and breaks the bond that keeps your underlayment dry. On metal it forces water sideways into fasteners. The roof looks clean for a season and then ages twice as fast, and nobody connects the two events because they happened a year apart.
We treat the roof like a growing thing, because it is one. Algae is alive. Soft wash kills it at the root, the dead growth releases over the next rain cycles, and the roof sheds it the way it was designed to. Zero pressure, start to finish. If a roof can't be cleaned safely without pressure, we tell you that on the walkthrough and we don't take the job.
What wash day looks like from your side
You don't need to be home, but the pets do need a walk planned. We pre-wet every plant bed below the drip line, soft wash the roof in sections, and keep the solution where the roof is. Before we leave we rinse the landscaping again and walk the gutters. Most roof jobs are a morning. Tile and steep pitches can run a day. You get before and after photos either way, because nobody can see their own roof without a ladder or a drone.
